Charity walker raises thousands of pounds

A man has raised more than £8,000 after tackling a gruelling walk on Saturday.

Stuart Ferguson trekked from Warkworth to Lucker, taking in Warkworth, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh castles along the way.

Stuart has a caravan in Lucker and finished his walk at the village’s Apple Inn, where he is a regular.

He did the walk for the Ward 48 Gastroenterology Fund. Ward 48, which is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, is an acute medical ward for adults specialising in gastroenterology and provides care for people with bowel and liver-related disease, as well as many other medical conditions.

Stuart said: “A very close member of my family has been suffering with Crohn’s disease for more than half his life, so the chance to raise money for this cause is very personal.”
