Charity racks up a record sum

A NORTH Northumberland charity raised a record sum at the weekend, racking up nearly £5,000.

Seahouses and District Cancer Research and Relief Fund held their annual fund-raising coffee morning last Saturday at the Bamburgh Castle Hotel.

The event was a huge success, raising a record sum of £4,800 including sponsorship from Barclays and various donations.

The fund is a local charity which has been established for over 30 years and provides support to a number of local and national cancer-related causes.

This ranges from providing equipment or support to those in need, through to funding transport to hospital treatment sessions.

It is only through the huge committment and support from the fund’s volunteer workers and many supporters in the area that this work can continue.

In particular this year, thanks go to the Bamburgh Castle Inn for once again providing the venue and Barclays for its sponsorship of this community initiative.

During 2011 the fund supported more patients and their families than ever before, meaning the drive to generate funds has never been more important.

Once again the group was fortunate to receive a variety of donations from supporters and other fund-raising events organised on their behalf.
