The county’s only charity working for all carers, regardless of their circumstances, is concerned that many don’t know it exists.
Carers Northumberland is urging the 36,000 carers identified in the county through the 2001 census to get in touch.
Information officer Anne-Marie Johnstone said: “Many carers are missing out on information about benefits and support.
“We want carers to contact us if they are caring for a family member or friend who is elderly, ill, disabled or misuses substances.
“Being a carer can be very isolating and we want them to know that we are here to support every carer, whatever their situation.”
Carers Northumberland’s information line, 01670 3200025, offers a single point of contact for any inquiry linked to caring responsibilities. It works closely with specialist agencies across Northumberland and beyond.
