In 2015, Steve Miller, of AA Taxis, organised the golf day, hoping to make it an annual event supporting different good causes in the town.

Proceeds from last year’s event went towards nursery equipment at Barndale House School and this year’s will go to support the residents at Abbeyfield House.

It takes place at Alnwick Castle Golf Club on Saturday, August 20, with registration at 12.30pm for a 1.30pm shotgun start. A maximum of 18 teams can take part so payment must be made upon booking to guarantee a place.

It costs £60 per four-ball team, which includes a roast sandwich, and the maximum handicap is 24 (three-quarter allowance). There are hole-in-one prizes too, including a holiday in Portugal, a set of irons and £5,000 cash.
