Charity box thief targets Alnmouth shop

Police are appealing for witnesses after a charity box was stolen from Alnmouth Post Office.

The theft happened at 4.13pm on Tuesday, when a purple-coloured charity box with cash inside was stolen from the counter.

The suspect is described as being white, aged in his late 40s and wearing black-rimmed glasses, a shirt and jumper and he was carrying a plastic green and white carrier bag.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch. Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: “This suspect has stolen cash which was meant for a good cause and it’s a despicable crime to effectively steal from a charity.

“I’d urge anyone who knows who this person is to contact police as soon as possible so the appropriate action can be taken.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
