The awards were created to recognise formally individuals and groups for their dedication to and contribution and involvement in the town.

Last year, there were 15 individual awards and three group awards given out.

Reasons for nominations included community-service activities and volunteer work; long service to local events and services; high levels of horticultural care within the town; contribution to the heritage in Alnwick; programmes for disabled and disadvantaged children and for continued hard work and dedication in making Alnwick a more attractive place to work and visit.

There are people who make a real difference to this town and its residents and the tourists who visit.

They are the sort of people who just do what needs to be done without making a fuss and the Mayor feels it is important that these people got recognition for what they do.

Mayor of Alnwick, Bill Grisdale, said: “I’m always amazed with the wide range of activities and support the nominees are involved in.

“Alnwick is very lucky to have such a committed team of people who give their time and without whom many local groups and organisations would not be able to operate.

“I hope we get a good level of response as I know there are many people worthy of a Civic Award.”
