Champions Alnmouth end their season with eight-wicket win

A1 League Champions Alnmouth & Lesbury CC capped off an exceptional season with an eight wicket victory at Seaton Burn.

The home team were dismissed for just 80 with Matt Willcox 4-21 and Ed Brunton 3-8 being the main wicket-takers.

Alnmouth knocked off the runs with some ease despite the loss of Russell Hughes (3) and Callum Batey (25). Paul Straker’s innings of 37 not out, ensured he finished the season as the league’s top run scorer and kept his season’s average above 50.

The Seasiders finished the league 63 points ahead of Stocksfield who were also promoted, in the twelve team league Tillside finished fifth and Alnwick were back in 10th.

Alnmouth 2nd XI ensured they finished runners-up in Division B1 with a comfortable win over Percy Main. Percy Main were bowled out for a lowly 77, mainly thanks to another masterclass from Richard Neil (5-12).

Alnmouth achieved their victory inside 15 overs despite losing 3 wickets, with Brian Brookes (16 not out) and Simon Poole (34 not out) seeing the home team to victory and their highest ever league finish.

Alnwick 1sts ended their season on a winning note when they beat neighbours Tillside 1sts by 15 runs at home.

In what was a low scoring game, Alnwick were all out for only 82 with their top scorers Max Harrison and Bradley Spiers both on 17.

Cameron McGregor took 3-10 and Jake Birkett 3-18 for Tillside, who in their innings struggled to only 67 all out with opener Liam Hindmarsh on 20. Jamie Guy had a good spell with the ball taking a match-winning 6-21.

Alnwick 2nds won by 51 runs when they played their final game of the season away to Willside 2nds.

Alnwick batted first and put on 176-5 in their 45 overs. Harry Lobb was the mainstay of the innings with 95.

The Etal side replied with 125-8 in their innings.

Warkworth 1sts lost by 125 runs when they travelled to take on Blyth 1sts.

Gary Quinn hit 72 and Andrew Ebdale 43 as Blyth batted first and put on a big score of 245, all out in the 48th over.

Adam Hall took 4-65 and Ian Clough 3-56 for Warkworth, who in reply were all out for 120 with openers Stephen Dargue and Scott Gibson both making 36.

Surj Singh enjoyed a good spell with the ball for Blyth taking a fine 7-16.

Warkworth 2nds had a five wicket home win over Kirkley 2nds. Benno Thompson top scored with 25 as Kirkley were reduced to 75 all out with three wickets each for Edward Brown and Ben Briggs. Opener Brown hit 29 as Warkworth hit 77-5 in reply.

Warenford’s home game against Hebburn was cancelled.

Wooler won by nine runs when they beat Ashington Rugby at Glendale.

Andrew Aitchison hit 41 as Wooler put on 131 all out in 36 overs with David Wanless and Trevor Elliott taking three wickets apiece.

Opener Stephen Henderson hit 37 as Ashington replied with 122-6 in 40 overs, with Angus Todd claiming 2-28.

Embleton conceded their game away to Monkseaton 2nds.

Alnmouth & Lesbury won by 66 runs at home to Blue Flames 2nds. The visiting opening pairing of Khan and Khan got Blue Flames off to a good start with 66 and 76 as they put on 239-8 in their 40 overs.

Oliver Tulip took 3-62 for the Howick side, who in their innings saw Adam Riley top score with 85, but they came up short on 173-3.
