Century stand for openers as Alnmouth win

A century stand from openers Russell Hughes and Paul Straker helped Alnmouth and Lesbury to a fine eight wicket away win over Bates Cottages in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League at the weekend.

Ross Symington had hit an unbeaten 87 at Bates posted a score of 169 all out, with Straker taking 4-36 and Edward Brunton 3-32.

Hughes and Straker then made an opening stand of 106 before Straker was run out for 57. Hughes went on to make 77 as Alnmouth won by eight wickets with a score of 170-2.

Alnmouth 2nds won by 22 runs at home to Swalwell 2nds. Alistair Batey hit 54 as Alnmouth opened up with 168-6 in 33 overs, with Roy Gray taking three wickets for the opposition.

Richard Shotton hit 53 not out for Swalwell, but they finished on 146-5 in their 33 over spell, with two wickets each for Lucas and Peter Robinson.

Alnwick 2nds lost by 100 runs at home to Stocksfield 2nds.

Stocksfield hit 208-8 with Paul Watson on 60 not out and Perry Hall on 50.

Kyle Hollingworth took 3-32 for Alnwick, who in reply found themselves reduced to 108 with N Richardson their top scorer on 34.
