CENTRE: Not a council property

I read with interest the letter from Mrs Watson on the Dovecote Centre in Amble, (Northumberland Gazette, July 28).

I found the letter to be extremely misleading and felt I needed to respond.

The Dovecote Centre isn’t the council’s property, it belongs to the church. The community centre in Hadston is receiving works because it’s a council facility.

I know the people of Hadston don’t begrudge the millions spent in Amble so why she has such an issue with our investment in Hadston, I do not know.

The other important fact is that the Conservative Government removed the funding for Community Adult Learning, the service that subsidised the running of the whole building.

So without the government funding important work like this, while also slashing the council’s budget overall, where is the money supposed to come from?

The service is working hard to continue to provide much needed adult learning in Amble, but there’s no money to fund the running of a building alongside.

So please, let’s not have letters that may mislead the people of Amble about the Dovecote Centre.
