Clyde the cat was shot by a high-powered rifle at the Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre, near Milfield.
The incident, which led to the loss of a front leg, happened last Wednesday night and is being investigated by police.
Centre owner Viv Cockburn said: “We are absolutely devastated and cannot comprehend this senseless action.
“On taking him to the vet it transpired he had been shot at close range with a high powered rifle.
“Clyde went through extensive surgery and sadly lost his front leg. Clyde is recovering well and we would like to thank Cheviot Vets for their kind care and attention.”
