A castle visit and a books donation

The Year 4 children from St Michael's CE Primary School in Alnwick embarked on their residential visit to Ford Castle.

Headteacher Gavin Johnston said: “The children looked fantastic in their bright red hoodies and were raring to go.

“Activities included photo trail, obstacle course, high all-aboard, night-line, archery and many more. Fencing in the long gallery was a particular hit with real foils and armour.

“We were lucky to have a walk in the countryside with our old friend Jim – a Ford Castle veteran.

“The children were fantastically behaved, which included helping and supporting one another, providing encouragement and being great friends.

“Staff from St Michael’s were privileged to join the children for this time and other members of staff came up in the evenings to join in with the evening fun and games.

“As ever, this will be an experience to treasure for many years. Parents will be treated to a debrief and sharing session in school very soon.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, the school welcomed staff from WHSmith in Alnwick to its worship.

On World Book Day, WHSmith invited pupils to visit the bookshop and spend their special vouchers for the £1 books.

They were warmly welcomed and given £100 of books, for which the school is very grateful.

The school librarians visited last Monday to select the books, carefully catering for the whole age range.
