Cartoonist proves a big draw for students

A group of Alnwick pupils had a fantastic experience recently as they learned how to draw cartoons and create a comic strip.

As part of the Hexham Book Festival, 24 Duke’s Middle School boys were treated to a workshop by famous Marvel and Beano cartoonist Kev F Sutherland.

Head of School, SENDCo/child protection, Anne Puddephatt, said: “Kev amazed the boys with his cartoon-drawing skills and showed them how to take a character and turn it into a comic-strip story.

“By the end of the frantic two-hour workshop, all the boys had produced their own new cartoon character and had created their own page for the group comic which was then printed and published at the end of the day.

“If that wasn’t enough, pupils also were treated to their own caricature, drawn and signed by Kev.”
