Car dealership shortlisted for prestigious UK accolade

A long-running car dealership which has sites in Alnwick and Morpeth will represent the region in a prestigious national competition, after being shortlisted from hundreds of nominations.

Blackshaws is in the running to take a coveted accolade at the 7th Annual Red Ribbon Awards 2016 – described as the UK’s most prestigious awards for British family-owned businesses.

The contest is the only one of its kind which recognises the achievements and contributions of the most enterprising business families and honours the most exceptional family-run companies.

Blackshaws is one of the North East’s representatives for The Atoll Big Heart Award and will find out if it has won at a ceremony at Wembley Stadium on Friday, July 15.

Blackshaws’ managing director William Blackshaw said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for this award, particularly as our nomination was made anonymously by a customer, employee or friend of our business.

“We try to look after our staff and customers at all times as well as contributing as much as we can to our local community so it is very rewarding to receive recognition in this way. We hope to do the North East proud in the final in July.”

Blackshaws has a long heritage, dating back to 1919. It has two sites in Northumberland; a Nissan and Suzuki dealership in Alnwick and a recently-launched Mitsubishi dealership in Morpeth.

The other North East company shortlisted in the Big Heart Award is North Yorkshire-based Diagmed Healthcare, while those around the UK are Edward Elgar Publishing and Hall-Fast Industrial Supplies (The Midlands); Lamont Pridmore and F Duerrs & Sons (North West); Henry Brothers and Homecare Independent Living (Northern Ireland); PG Paper Company and Johnstons of Elgin (Scotland); Glosrose Group, Speak First and Winslow Skincare (South East); Beards the Jewellers and Rumwell Farm Shop (South West); Lizzie’s Barn Sanctuary and Harlech Foodservice (Wales).

Award judges take into account a company’s passion, integrity, customer service and longevity before being chosen to represent their region in the final.

The businesses are chosen for their entrepreneurial spirit and true dedication to British commerce.
