Capture the beauty of tranquil Redesdale
A photographic competition has been launched to help develop a £1.8million bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Revitalising Redesdale is working with local people across the Rede Valley to secure the grant to celebrate the area’s rich cultural heritage and protect and enhance the landscape and wildlife.
A number of studies will be taking place to explore the project’s initial ideas for a second-round bid.
This will be submitted in July 2017 and a decision will be made by Christmas on whether Revitalising Redesdale has successfully secured funds to undertake a wide range of projects in the valley. Projects being considered for the final bid include the consolidation and protection of High Rochester Roman Fort; restoration of early 19th century Ridsdale Iron works; community archaeology and history projects; and a new interpretation for the battle of Otterburn, among other things.
As part of the project, people who love Redesdale, which includes settlements such as Otterburn and Elsdon, are being encouraged to share their favourite images in the #myredesdale photo competition. Images will be used in bid documents.
Lydia Speakman, project development manager for Revitalising Redesdale, said: “We are looking for the quirky personal shots which capture the personality of Redesdale and the communities which live there. By encouraging people to send us images of Redesdale that matter to them, we hope it will complement the comments we are receiving during our consultations.
“Finding out what locals and visitors really value ensures we are focussing on the right things.”
How to enter the competition
It is open to anyone over the age of 18 and runs until November 30.
There are four categories: Redesdale Landscapes; Wild Redesdale; Old Redesdale; and Redesdale Life; with a £25 Amazon gift voucher for the best picture in each category.
