As reported by the Gazette last year, staff and customers at the Village Inn in Longframlington held a series of fund-raising events and challenges to raise money for CLIC Sargent, which was supporting 21-year-old barmaid Becky Cole and her family through treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

In what was a strange coincidence, when she received her diagnosis and went to tell her boss, Terry Maughan, in January 2015, he told her they had just decided to support the charity, which helps children and young people up to the age of 24 cope with cancer.

What’s more, Becky is in full remission and starting to get back to work.

“I’m just glad to be back to normal,” she said, adding that CLIC Sargent had been amazing, not just in helping her, but her family and partner too.

The Village Inn has selected Cancer Research UK as its 2016 charity and Becky is keen to continue helping to raise money for that cause.

But, to show her gratitude to CLIC Sargent, she has also signed up for the charity’s trek along the world-famous Great Wall of China, which stretches 6,000km across the country, in October this year.

To do this, she has to raise £3,000, with half going towards expenses such as flights and the other half to CLIC Sargent. She has set up a JustGiving page – http://tinyurl.com/hem84lvCLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people – and their families.

It provides clinical, practical and emotional support to help them cope with cancer and get the most out of life.
