Road-safety campaigner Kate Cairns attended the House of Commons Terrace for the launch of the national Stay Wider of the Rider campaign, which encourages drivers to give cyclists more space.

Her sister Eilidh, from Ellingham, was crushed by a tipper lorry while cycling to work in London in 2009.

Former Northumberland county councillor Kate backed the campaign and urged police forces to promote it.
