A former Hollyoaks star from Alnwick has filmed a new comedy in the town, based on the exploits of his mum.
Kris Deedigan has written the show called The Bookies, focusing on his mum Alison’s time as a bookmaker in the town. Last week, cast and crew descended on Alnwick to shoot a full pilot, using Lindisfarne Adult Learning Centre, Mailhouse and the rugby club as locations.
Meanwhile, Alison’s former employer, Chisholm Bookmakers, did its bit to support the production.
Kris will edit the footage, before sending it out to major broadcasters.
He said: “Filming went brilliantly and Alnwick itself is a character in it. My mum, along with my aunties Anne Dunn and Jenny McFall – who the show is also about – came on set and they loved it.”
In what is a family affair, many of Kris’ relatives were involved, either as extras or helping to direct/produce it.
Kris thanked the Alnwick community for its support, including businesses Turnbull’s, VM Dundas, CK Painting, Williamson Decorator Centre, the Farm House Bakery and Northumberland County Council. He also praised the Lindisfarne Adult Learning Centre, saying it is a great resource to have in the town.
Meanwhile, his company, My Life Productions, is showing a film called Waves, made recently by youngsters, at Alnwick Playhouse tomnorrow from 6pm, with a Q&A session.
