Rothbury’s county councillor has appealed to Alnwick Town Council to help support a community bus service.

Coun Steven Bridgett wrote to the council to flag up a meeting he is organising with key officers from Northumberland County Council to look at how Spirit Buses, set up by Rothbury resident Steve Hurst, can be supported.

Coun Bridgett also flagged up two key issues relating to Alnwick Bus Station, which is owned by Morrisons and leased to Arriva.

He highlighted the fact that every time a Spirit bus departs Alnwick Bus Station, a fee of £1.20 is due to Arriva, amounting to around £20 a day, £500 a month or £6,000 a year.

The meeting also heard that Arriva has not put up timetables for Spirit Buses’ services, despite others haing been changed recently.
