Call to help Northumberland's village halls thrive
Community Action Northumberland (CAN) is calling on people to help their village halls thrive through a new crowd-funding campaign.
The campaign asks people to contribute towards funding the vital support service that CAN provides for village halls and community buildings across Northumberland – without which many could not survive.
Andy Dean, chief executive at CAN, said: “Village halls offer a focal point for communities. They are places for groups to get together, children to play, people to learn new skills and family and friends to celebrate. They even offer refuge in an emergency such as flooding.
“But they need support to survive. CAN provides a range of support to trustees and management committees of village halls – from health and safety and first-aid training to advice on licensing and funding bids. All of this support helps village halls thrive.”
There are around 250 village halls and community buildings across Northumberland offering vital facilities for residents and community groups. Some have been in place for many decades while others have been built more recently to bring communities together in rural areas where people can often become isolated.
