ALNWICK Theatre Club has made an open casting call for its annual pantomime.
The amateur dramatic group will be performing Treasure Island at the Alnwick Playhouse in January next year and is urging anyone interested to get involved.
Member Peter Biggers said: “We are always on the hunt for new, enthusiastic members, so whether you fancy a leading role, playing a supporting character or helping backstage, we want to hear from you.
“Although our focus is always about producing great shows, all our members enjoy the friendly atmosphere and social side to the club, so please don’t feel worried about whether you’ll be made welcome.
“And don’t let age be an obstacle. We have members of all ages from 19 onwards. Some have been members for 20 years, while others joined us just a few weeks ago. This casting call is open to all.”
Performing members of the club will be required to act, perhaps dance and maybe sing a note or two, tell a joke, have a laugh and even slap a thigh as a pirate in Treasure Island.
The panto promises to be great fun in a tale of adventure, piracy, romance and treasure, not forgetting the usual high laughs and slap-stick along the way.
However, the club recognises that not everyone has experience or training, and talents vary, so the main qualities that the group will be looking for in new members are enthusiasm, energy and commitment.
“If you think these qualities apply to you, come along, we’d be delighted to meet you,” said Peter.
If anyone is interested in joining the panto cast, there will be a read through of the script at 7.30pm on Monday in the gym of St Paul’s RCVA School, on South Road, Alnwick, followed by auditions on Thursday, September 8, which will take place at the same time and venue.
Club rehearsals are every Monday and most Thursdays, but more will be scheduled in just before the show opens on Saturday, January 21.
