Parish councillors put forward the idea as one of their priorities for consideration for Northumberland County Council’s Local Transport Plan 2018-19.

As part of this, the group has also called for the installation of a pedestrian crossing and extension of the footpath at Warkworth C of E Aided Primary School, as well as an upgrade of Guilden Road to the Hope Farm crossroads, after planning permission was given for 500 homes in Amble.

In other transport matters, Coun Helen Wilson commented on the ongoing traffic problems in the village and the number of large lorries travelling through, while Coun Stewart Elliott criticised the poor state of road repairs.

During last month’s meeting, residents spoke about parking in the dunes behind the north pier, saying that vehicles often stay there overnight and the gate always seems to be open.

They were concerned about the increasing use and consequent damage to the dunes.

The meeting heard that this issue has been raised by Coun Rod Galilee and efforts are being made to establish ownership of the area.

Members agreed on the need to discuss the situation with the caravan site manager and AONB Partnership to prevent wild camping and potential damage to the dunes.
