Café and artisan bakery is cooking up a name for itself

The Running Fox, in Felton, which is run by owner Kris Blackburn, has just been named the winner in the Hospitality and Leisure category of Country Homes and Interiors My Country Business awards.

The prize includes coverage in the national lifestyle magazine and business mentoring sessions for Kris and her staff from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage team.

Kris said: “It’s the sort of national exposure and business expertise that money just can’t buy for a small rural business like ours, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what business experts think about the way we can develop. My dream is a quality bakery and cakery in every village – let’s see if Hugh can help us make our dreams come true.”

As part of this dream, and on a mission to bring fresh bread and delicious cake to a wider audience, Kris has recently opened a second outpost of the popular eatery – a bakery and cakery in Longframlington.

Situated just opposite David Carr’s award-winning grocer’s shop, the Running Fox at Longframlington will offer hand-made cakes, pies and artisan bread baked on the premises.

Kris said: “We opened last Wednesday with a chance for locals to come in and try our coffee, cakes and bread and were overwhelmed by the response – people were queueing up outside.

“Since then the cakery and garden have been really busy. Lots of our Felton regulars have been up to support us too and our first day saw the whole Women’s Institute pop in for a coffee.”

Earlier this year, The Running Fox took the Coolest Café of the Year title, as part of the WOW24/7 Awards 2016, which were organised by Johnston Press North East, publishers of the Northumberland Gazette, Berwick Advertiser, Morpeth Herald and News Post Leader.
