Alnwick Youth Hostel has been ranked as one of the best in the UK, as part of a prestigious competition.
The Green Batt-based facility came ninth overall in its category in Late Rooms.com’s Simply the Guest Awards.
The prize-giving revealed which venues the UK public rated the highest based on genuine reviews. Categories included boutique hotel, historic hotel and bed and breakfast.
Cowbridge Cabins won the hostel section, but for the Alnwick venue to make it into the top 10 was something of a coup.
Once the town’s Court House, built in 1856, the hostel was opened by the Queen in 2011 and operates as part of YHA’s (Youth Hostels Association) Enterprise scheme.
A four-star-standard facility, it offers en suite accommodation in 15 rooms for up to 57 visitors.
Other hostels in the top 10 were the YHA Stratford-upon-Avon, The Level Crossing Bunkhouse Bar and Bistro, in Llandovery, YHA Ambleside, Sittingbourne’s Palace Farm Hostel, YHA Hartington Hall, in Buxton, Bangor University Accommodation, Stay Green, in Edenbridge, and Safestay, in London.
The awards ceremony took pace earlier this month and was presented online live from The Savoy Hotel, London.
