A Northumberland wedding venue is saying ‘I do’ to success, after a rise in bookings has led to the recruitment of more staff.

And the boss at Ellingham Hall has also unveiled plans to expand the building’s appeal to a wider audience.

The magnificent 17th century property is very much in demand for those wanting to tie the knot.

Since the turn of the year, interest in the venue has been growing – so much so that the majority of Saturdays until September 2016 have been snapped up.

As a result, five members of full-time staff have recently been taken on, bringing the number of people on the books to more than 30.

General manager Anthony Hunter believes word about the Hall is starting to spread.

He said: “We have been working really hard to push our name out there and hopefully our reputation is starting to grow. I think word of mouth is helping to increase our bookings, so much so that pretty much all our weekends are filled up for the next 18 months.”

While Ellingham Hall caters primarily for wedding functions, Anthony said that moves are afoot to add to the venue’s offering, by providing a service for birthday parties and ‘affordable’ private dining.

“What we are looking to do is get our name out there as a venue, which is not just a wedding venue,” he said.

“We want to provide dining experiences for private parties of 10 and over and use it as a location for birthdays and family get-togethers. We will be really pushing this from August/September time.

“The weddings are great, but we would like people to know that we cater for other things.”

For Anthony, Ellingham Hall’s biggest selling point is its exclusivity. He said: “No matter what the venue is being used for, whether it’s weddings, birthdays or private dining, people are promised exclusivity – we only take one party at a time.”

l The next open day for couples wanting to view Ellingham Hall is Sunday, June 28, from noon to 4pm. The house will be open for people to explore, with the team on hand to answer any questions, along with a selection of the venue’s favourite suppliers.
