Record attendance at hay show

The bright sunshine tempted a record number of visitors along to The Gate Annual Hay Show, in Forestburngate, which took place last Sunday.

There were some very strong entries in the 2015 competition, which was judged by an expert panel consisting of Frazer Scott, Les Blakey and Sarah Tennant.

Chris Armstrong, of Hexham and Northern Marts, ably and cheerfully conducted the charity pledge auction, at which well over £3,000 was raised with particularly strong bidding for three beautiful, traditionally hand-made walking sticks.

Visitors were also entertained by the Rothbury Highland Pipe Band.

Hedley Heron and the Simonside Country Fair committee thanked everyone for their support and help with all aspects of what was a very good day.

Special thanks also to Denise and Richard, hosts at The Gate, for all the hard work they put into the day and for welcoming everyone to the pub.
