Householders in Seahouses will be receiving much smaller energy bills in the future, thanks to innovative new technology fitted to their homes.

Twenty-two properties in the north Northumberland village have been fitted with solar thermal panels on their roofs by renewable energy company Opus Green on behalf of Four Housing.

The panels capture the sun’s energy and use it to heat water, which is then stored in a hot water cylinder, which in turn reduces the householder’s fuel bills.

Pensioners James and Vera Martin have had the solar panels fitted to their Stone Close home, and James has already noticed a difference.

“I keep a check on our electricity usage and there has been a dramatic drop since the panels were fitted,” he said.

“It only took a couple of days and there was no mess or fuss.”
