A new beauty and personal care business is to officially open following a full makeover of the shop.
The Powder Room Spa and Beauty has recently had a full transformation and will fully open this Saturday.
Determined to make her mark in the town, Leonie Airlie moved into the shop on the Market Place back in December 2014 and shared Alnwick’s only lingerie shop until it relocated last month to Rothbury.
With Silk and Sand was on the move, Leonie jumped at the chance to take ownership.
The first-time business-owner decided to take the leap after a long-spanning management career at a Richard Branson Virgin Active health club near London.
“In that career, the higher you go, the less of a job you actually do. I ran the tranquillity spa there for six-and-a-half years.
“It’s a faster pace down there than it is up here, so I think you get more one-on-one time with people up here.”
When Leonie moved up to the area back in August 2014, she began doing mobile treatments but the demand became too much.
“Because everywhere up here is 10 to 15 minutes away, the travel time in-between meant I was only really able to fit in four to five clients in a day.
“When I moved into the shop I had a vision of what I wanted. Now I’ve had the renovation everyone has said ‘it looks so different’, but I think I’d sat there in the corner and pictured how I was going to have it.”
On Saturday, Leonie is already fully booked out for test treatments, but urges people to come along to grab some discount vouchers and goodie bags.
“I want people to come in and try all the products, see what the place is like and then get some vouchers.
“Any treatment booked this weekend, you’ll get 20 per cent off.”
