Businesses, individuals, attractions and more have been recognised in the inaugural Northumberland What’s on Where Awards.

Organised by Northeast Press, publishers of the Northumberland Gazette, Morpeth Herald and News Post Leader, alongside Tweeddale Press’s Berwick Advertiser, the awards highlight the places and people that make Northumberland a wonderful place in which to live, work and visit.

And in a glittering night at Newton Hall, last night, recognition was given.

Ten awards were handed out to a packed-out event which saw a cocktail reception before a meal and the main event.

Sponsors took to the stage to give the winners their trophies and praise their efforts.

Lisa Aynsley, Northeast Press events manager, said: “The awards night was fantastic and it was great to see so many people rewarded for their efforts.

“I would like to say a big thank-you to all our sponsors for coming on board with what is hoped to be the first of many What’s on Where Awards.

“Northumberland is a fantastic county and it is brilliant to be able to recognise those that make it so good.”

Berwick Film and Media Festival took the Community Event accolade, sponsored by Banks Group and presented by Katie Perkin, while the Alnmouth Arts Festival was highly commended in the category.

Paul Larkin, editor of the Northumberland Gazette, presented Seahouses Hub with their gong for winning the Recreation Facility/Children’s Venue of the Year Award.

The Captain’s Lodge, at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea took the third award of the night for the best Bed and Breakfast or Guest House in the county, presented by Phil Johnson, editor of the Berwick Advertiser.

Next up was the Northumberland Pub of the Year, presented by David Whitehead, owner of the Jolly Fisherman at Craster. And it was the Joiner’s Arms at Newton-by-the-Sea that took the accolade.

The Best Independent Spa, Boutique or Hairdresser was won by the Sanctuary Spa at Seahouses, with the award presented by sponsors Northumberland College.
