Border Livestock Exchange to week ending Friday, July 10, sold 178 Prime Cattle including 41 Cast Cows; 3,135 Sheep including 1,791 Prime Lambs; 414 Cast Ewes, 930 Store Lambs and 90 Store and Breeding Cattle.
Prime Cattle continue to improve as supplies shorten and demand overtakes the number available.
Great quality Suckler Bred Young Bulls from Whitmuirhaugh, Kelso topped the lot reaching 384p per kg and £1,584 per head.
The consignment averaged £1,465. Another fantastic run of quality Continental Steers from Elwick, Belford averaged £1499.40 per head topping out at £1569.10. Aberdeen Angus Heifers from Fenwick Steads, Belford sold to 405p per kg (+50p on last year).
Lamb prices also rallied slightly with export weights selling to 355p per kg for Texel crosses from Primside Farm, Kelso and Eastfield of Lempitlaw, Kelso. Heavy Lambs to average £74.40 Shieldykes, Alnwick. Hollybush, Galashiels Texels to £75.60. Blackcastle, Pathhead £76.65.
Large numbers of Store Lambs were sold to advantage against a modest fat trade they look well sold. Store and Breeding Cattle were also easily sold with regular customers securing their favourite lots directly from the breeders.
