A global company that has operated a successful apprenticeship programme since 2002, has been recognised for its work.

SCA Hygiene launched its apprenticeship programme in 2002.

Since then, it has recruited and given full-time employment through its schemes to more than 100 young people, aged between 16 and 24.

The firm took home the Apprenticeship Ambassador award after judges praised it for its commitment and culture of providing positive opportunities to apprentices.

Ian Callender, apprentice team leader, said: “I’m over the moon to win this award.

“Our apprentices go from strength to strength, and it is nice to get an accolade like this. We invest a lot of time and money in our apprentices and we give them opportunities to grown.

“We will keep investing in young people as they are the future of the business. We look after them as we see them as an investment in the future.”

SCA Hygiene invests in apprenticeships as part of its long-term sustainable business strategy, which was commended by the judges.

Everlong Paint, Complete Business Supplies and RDP Metalworks were also shortlisted in this category, which was sponsored by the Morpeth Herald.
