A major kitchen company made Alnwick the main ingredient for the national launch of its latest collection last week.

Mereway Kitchens, a leading manufacturer of high-quality kitchen furniture, chose Alnwick-based home improvement centre Outlook to showcase its latest range.

The new Town & Country collection was certainly launched in style.

A party of invited guests and journalists, from lifestyle and trade magazines, were transported from London by train and promised a ‘magical’ time in Alnwick, with a day of Harry Potter-themed activities.

It began with a demonstration from Masterchef Live winner Gareth Kyle at Outlook’s cookery school Outcook, followed by a lively Ready Steady Cook-style competition and culminating in an evening meal at the Treehouse Restaurant in The Alnwick Garden.

Gareth, from Gateshead, is the brand ambassador for the new kitchen range and a regular chef at Outcook.

He demonstrated four dishes, using local ingredients that could be prepared in both a town and country style, giving guests the opportunity to shuck oysters from Lindisfarne and prepare a Champagne dressing.

“It was a magical event,” said Mereway sales and marketing director Graham Jones. “Everyone joined in the fun in the cookery school as we challenged them to create their own town or country dishes from a selection of ingredients.”

Graham presented the new look and explained how it opened up possibilities for designers to mix and match traditional styles with a contemporary twist, to create an eclectic array of possibilities and designs which have never been possible before.

Mereway designers Bruce Thomas and Ian Robinson demonstrated how it worked with an interactive display that illustrated how different finishes and door handles can change the look.

Freelance journalist Linda Parker said: “It was a fabulous trip, so much fun, and wonderfully informative too.”

Outlook is an exclusive partner of the Birmingham-based company and its showroom and cookery school in Bondgate Without has recently been fitted out with Mereway designs.

Ben Keenan, who owns Outlook, said: “The launch was a huge success and everyone who attended had a great time. They were given the opportunity to see our newly-furbished showroom as well as spend some time being creative in Outcook.

“Outlook is delighted to be an exclusive partner of Mereway. The kitchens they provide accommodate every budget , they are high quality and their range is fantastic. If anyone would like to see our new showroom, please call in, we are open six days a week.”

The Alnwick business has also installed a Mereway bedroom for the first time and Ben is particularly excited about that side of his operation.

“We have always fitted bedrooms, but I decided it would be great to have a bedroom as part of the showroom and more so since Mereway have introduced their bedroom range,” said Ben. “It’s something different and we have also teamed up with Dickinson’s of Alnwick, which has provided the soft furnishings to show you what can be achieved in a relatively small space.”
