ACKLINGTON

September 20

NORTHEast Livestock Sales annual show and sale of breeding sheep sponsored by Scot JCB, sold 3021 in total including 1215 gimmers, 972 ewes, 170 rams, 371 ewe lambs and 300 store lambs.

The show was judged by GA Stephens, Melton Mowbray who awarded the Champion pen of Mule Gimmers to FS Vickers & Son, South Rennington sold at £182 to Low Middleton Livestock.

The Homilton Trophy for the best Texel Ram was won by the Late J Ferguson, Bellion sold for £950 to GR Scott & Son, Corneyside.

A good quality show were easily sold. 1st Texel Bellion, 2nd Hartoft House, 1st Continental Thrunton, 2nd Thrunton, 1st Suffolk East Haugh, 2nd East Fleetham.

BORDER Livestock Exchange Ltd to week ending Friday, September 23, sold 96 Prime Cattle including 42 Cast Cows; 3,496 Prime Lambs; 828 Cast Ewes; 360 Breeding Sheep; 848 Store Lambs and 174 Store Cattle.

Superb Aberdeen Angus x Steers from Eastfield of Lempitlaw, Kelso sold to £1,401 per head. Quality Aberdeen Angus x Heifers from Borewell, Scremerston, Berwick-upon-Tweed sold to £1,234 per head. Continental x Heifers from Fenwick Steads, Belford sold to 335p per kilo.

Lamb trade continues with well bred sorts commanding a premium. Texel x to 390p per kilo from Sharplaw Farms, Hownam; The Juries, Wooler; Inchkeith, Lauder; Symington Mains, Stow and organic lambs to 395p per kilo. Heavy Lambs to £83.60 per head Eastfield of Lempitlaw, Kelso.

Breeding Sheep and Cattle were again keenly sought after. Mule Gimmers to £160 and £150. Mule Ewe Lambs to £115. MeatLinc Shearling Ram to £700. Store Cattle dearest ever with Three Quarter Bred Limousin Steers to 230p per kilo. Limousin Heifers to 210p per kilo.
