North East Livestock Sales sold 74 prime cattle, including 13 cows. 1194 sheep comprising 683 Hoggs and 511 Cast Ewes.

Cattle- A more commercial show forward with trade being a shade easier.

Border Livestock Exchange Ltd to week ending Friday, April 19, sold 149 Prime Cattle including 41 Cast Cows; 196 Store Cattle and 811 Prime Hoggs and Cast Ewes.

Cattle trade remains very dear with Native Bred Steers selling to 417p per kg for Shorthorn Crosses from Whitmuirhaugh, Kelso. Aberdeen Angus Cross Heifers from Eastfield of Lempitlaw, Kelso sold to 440p per kg to Well Hung & Tender, Berwick upon Tweed.

Cast Cows set a new record price for all breeds.

Pedigree Belgian Blues sold to 400p per kg from Bowsden Moor, Berwick upon Tweed, with Holsteins from Kelloe Mains, Duns selling to £1,362 per head.

First New Lambs of the Season sold to £126 per head and £6.00 per kg to West Scottish Meats, Carlisle.

Store Cattle slightly dearer with the first signs of grass starting to appear.

Limousin Cross Steers to 265p per kg. Charolais Cross Heifers to 240p per kg and £1,100.

At their weekly Primestock Sale John Swan Limited had forward and sold 414 Hoggs and 222 Ewes.

Hoggs, flesh again in keen demand, leaner sorts difficult with the price gap between the two widening.
