A privately-owned independent insurance broker has come on board as a sponsor of this year’s Northumberland Business Awards.
Blyth-based Weir Insurance Brokers Ltd has roots that go back decades and is now run by second generation husband and wife team Duncan and Karen Weir.
The firm is sponsoring the Employer of the Year category in the awards, organised by NorthEast Press, publisher of the Northumberland Gazette, Morpeth Herald and News Post Leader, and Tweeddale Press’s Berwick Advertiser.
Karen said: “These awards are a big deal to us and our clients. Being local to our clients has always been important to us and although we have clients all over the UK, we especially love being part of the Northumberland business community.
“We are very excited about this year’s awards and I can really feel the buzz of business growth and recovery in the region, especially here in Northumberland.”
The awards encompass 12 categories: New Business (under two years); Social Responsibility Award; Apprentice/Trainee of the Year; Employer of the Year; Best Green Business; Exporter of the Year, Creative Industries Award; Innovation Award; Leisure Award; Large and Small Business of the Year; and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The winners will be announced at Linden Hall on Thursday, November 12.
Karen added: “We have chosen to sponsor the Employer of the Year award because work has to be more than a means to pay the mortgage. We are ourselves big advocates of the Investors In People standard and believe that the secret to success is good communication, a positive attitude and respect to those you work with – and always have fun where you can.
“We are really looking forward to seeing the entries in this category and being inspired by some of the good practice that we know goes on in our warm and friendly region.”
