Industry course reels in jobs for half its graduates

Five people who completed a free seafishing course have netted jobs.

A total of 10 trainees attended the Introduction to Commercial Fishing classes, which were run in Amble in July.

As a result, half of those who took part have gone on to secure roles in the industry.

Trainer Dennis Osborne said: “All 10 completed the course and achieved their certificates. Five are now working in the fishing industry. Some already had casual work, but now have permanent. Four of the course members have jobs in Amble with the fishing boats, one has a job in Seahouses. ”

The course was financed by the Seafish Authority, European Fisheries Fund and the Marine Management Organisation and delivered by Amble’s Anglo Scottish Seafood and Seafish Training Ltd.

Another free course, running for three weeks, starts on Monday, for people aged between 16 and 45. Call Dennis on 01665 713 823 or 07702 042551.
