A NEW bar, specialising in craft beer, is hoping to open around Easter in Alnwick.
A change of use application for the premises, at 24 Fenkle Street, was approved on March 1 for The Three Wise Monkeys – a craft ale bar, restaurant and specialist craft beer off–licence.
The bar will specialise in Northumberland ales and lagers, stocking a full range of bottles (40 plus), world beers and weekly specialist cask and kegged craft ales and even Northumberland-produced lagers.
The venue will serve its own bar snacks such as homemade scotch eggs and local cheeses.
The restaurant will later specialise in Thai food, and will use locally-sourced seasonal produce.
Owner Justin Pringle said: “I believe that a craft beer bar/restaurant concept would add much-needed value to the centre of Alnwick, and I feel that with such a unique promotion of Northumberland products we could also incentivise tourists to Alnwick. We will also be undertaking regular events, and brewery trips.
“The building offers a nice original Victorian setting to work with. The interior will be painted in dark hues, with low level lighting, populated with art deco items, Chesterfield sofas and chairs. All original features will be restored.
“We will offer small table grouping, and will look to offer a table service, with educated staff, informing the drinkers of the source and influences of their drinks in hand.
“We will have a pleasant ambient environment with background music – think Dylan and Neil Young.
“It will not be a ‘gastro pub’, merely a genuine nice bar, with nice honest food.”
Reassuring members of the public, Justin said that they will not tolerate any disruption to the public or neighbours, will act with the advice of the council and police, will modify the business to address any issues and will also work with our neighbours and local businesses and existing bars to get the business mutually beneficial.
