A nursing agency has set up business in Alnwick as it plans to grow and take on more clients.
Great Britannia Care was launched by Tracy Surtees in October 2012 and was run from her home in the town.
But as the company started to grow, she decided it was time to expand and move to a town-centre office.
Now she has taken over the former Hotspur Residential space on Bondgate Without.
The company provides nursing and care staff to homes in Alnwick at the moment, but Tracy is hoping that by moving into town, the clientele will grow .
Tracy, 39, said: “I’ve been in the care industry for 17 years on and off. I’ve been in the Army, been an outdoor education instructor but I have always come back to working in care because it’s what I enjoy.
“It’s about making a difference in people’s lives and providing them with the best possible care.
“Working in and out of homes I have seen some horrors.
“Over the last year-and-a-half, I have interviewed more than 150 people to be part of the agency and only 12 have made the grade. We want to provide the best and we sent the same carers out to the same homes which has worked really well.”
Great Britannia Care provides emergency staffing for care and nursing homes as well as providing full-time work.
“We can be there within 15 minutes if there is an emergency or staff shortage,” she said.
“And we want to replicate what we are doing in Alnwick in other areas.
“We provide local staff for local homes, which we would like to do in places other than Alnwick and we also provide training as well through the NHS.”
The agency is recruiting at the moment.
