Busy time for sheepdog league

THE Northumberland Sheep Dog League has had a busy few weeks.

On August 13, an open trial was held at Glanton Show.

Ian Shearlaw, from Whittingham, judged 28 dogs working Suffolk sheep over a good course.

Results: 1 Bill Elliot, Yetholm, with Rod, 74/90 points; 2 John Robinson, Coldingham, with Cap, 71; 3 David Baxter, Harbottle, with Don, 69; 4 Cameron Dickson, Coldingham, with Scot, 69; 5 Cameron Dickson with Rob, 58; 6 Archie Tait, Barrasford, with Dale, 56.

Novice prize went to Jane Wynn, Capheaton, with Fly, 55.

On August 20, at an open trial at Falstone Show, Ian Jackson, from Ancrum, judged 29 dogs working Blackface over a demanding course.

Results: 1 Bill Elliot, Yetholm, with Rod, 83/90; 2 Alan Wallace, Bellingham, with Ben, 77; 3 Tony Iley, Longframlington, with Glen, 73; 4 Bevis Jordan, Whitfield, with Grizz 72; 5 Mark Day, Alwinton, with Scot, 72; 6 Geoff Pringle, Alwinton, with Mist, 71.

A special prize went to Charles Halbutt, Alwinton, with Don.

On August 21, an open trial was held at Overacres Show, Elsdon.

Derek Archibald, from Hawick, judged 35 dogs working strong-willed Cheviot sheep over a flat course.

Results: 1 Bobby Dalziel, Etterick, with Spot, 85/100; 2 Geoff Pringle, Alwinton, with Mist, 76; 3 Bevis Jordan, Whitfield, with Sugar, 72; 4 Mark Elliot, Lazonby, with Spot, 71;

5 Mark Elliot, with Gael, 70; 6 Alan Common, Lockerbie, with Mirk, 69.

Also on August 21, an open trial was held at Kirknewton.

Stuart Wallace, from Yarrow, judged 40 dogs working good Blackface sheep over a challenging flat course.

Results: 1Willie Todd, Lockerbie, with Peg, 89/100; 2 Bobby Dalziel, Etterick, withJoe, 88; 3 Bobby Dalziel, with Spot, 87; 4 Alan Common, Lockerbie, with Ben, 86; 5 Geoff Pringle, Alwinton, with Mist, 85; 6 Alan Common, with Mirk, 84.

The novice prize went to Charles Halbutt, of Alwinton, with Don, 62 points.
