Border Livestock Exchange, week ending October 11

Border Livestock Exchange to week ending Friday, October 11, sold 152 prime cattle including 30 cows; 3,789 prime lambs including 595 ewes; 3,223 store and breeding sheep and 155 store and breeding cattle.

Organic steers sold to 500p per kilo and £1,488 per head. Prime cattle trade levelled off with Aberdeen Angus x bullocks and heifers sold to 450p per kilo and £1,812 per head.

Continental bullocks & heifers to 400p per kilo and £1,688 per head. Cull cows to 320p per kilo Fenwick Steads and £1,256 from Lochtower, Yetholm. Dairy cows to 285p Lowick Northfield and £1,119 per head.

Lamb trade is definitely firming as numbers tighten up. Standard lambs (16-21kgs) sold to 395p and £83. Hill lambs to 385p and £80.85. Organic lambs selling to 410p per kilo.

Cull ewe trade proved to be flatter with Continental ewes to £83, Mules to £60 and Blackfaced to £43.

Store lambs continue to sell well with strong lambs and longer keeping types keenly sought after.

North Country Cheviot gimmers to £135, Mule gimmers to £125, Cheviot draft ewes to £60.
