A north Northumberland inn has appointed a new general manager, who has worked his way up through the ranks of its parent group, learning every aspect of the trade along the way.
Martin Marshall, who hails from Leeds, has taken up the reins at the Beal-based Lindisfarne Inn, which stands at the gateway to Holy Island.
He began his career with leisure operator The Inn Collection Group in 2012, originally in a housekeeping position at The Bamburgh Castle Inn in Seahouses, before joining the bar team there.
Martin’s progression through the ranks has been rapid. He went on to become a trainee manager at the seaside inn before stepping up to become a deputy manager at the group’s purpose-built 53-room Hog’s Head Inn in Alnwick, upon completion of the company’s training programme. The role provided Martin with a thorough understanding of sales, service and customer care, which he is now putting into action at The Lindisfarne Inn.
He said: “Managing an inn myself is something I have always wanted to do since I joined the Inn Collection Group. During my time with the company, I have been provided with a first-class grounding in every aspect which has paved the way for me to step up to this role.
“I learned so much working alongside The Hog’s Head manager Gary Turner and I’m excited to be putting that into action at The Lindisfarne Inn, which is a fantastic place.”
It is the most northerly in the Inn Collection’s portfolio and provides 21 rooms in modern lodge-style accommodation. Located just off the A1, it is a popular stopping-off point for families visiting Holy Island as well as walkers and cyclists enjoying the famous St Oswald’s Way, the new Sandstone Way and Coast and Castles cycle routes. The Inn is also known for the quality of its home-cooked meals served throughout the day, with a focus on local produce.
Providing the best possible customer experience is central to Martin’s plans as the Inn’s new general manager.
He said: “I want the customers who come through that door to enjoy the whole experience we offer – the meals, the food, the atmosphere.
“Ensuring our team provides top-notch good customer service is central to what the team and I provide here, so that our customers and guests enjoy themselves and come back time and time again.”
In addition to its three Northumberland Inns, The Inn Collection Group portfolio also includes The King’s Head Inn at the foot of Roseberry Topping in the North York Moors National Park.
