The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) has appointed Charles Raine as chairman of its Northern division.

Mr Raine, who works for Alnwick-based Youngs RPS out of the Hexham office, will hold the position for two years and represent members in Northumberland, Durham and Cumbria, as well as Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire.

The CAAV is the national organisation representing professional valuers, with over 2,500 members. Its remit includes ensuring that professional standards are reached and maintained, partly through a professional competence exam. The organisation, with an information forum for members, also advises on a wide variety of rural issues, making representation to Westminster and in Europe on everything from CAP reform to farm tenancies and agri-environment schemes.

“I’m honoured to have been selected for the role and looking forward to the challenge,” said Mr Raine.

“I have personally been a member of the CAAV for 20 years.

“As an organisation the CAAV carries out some important work, in particular the training of probationers, which ensures that the next generation of agricultural valuers is adequately qualified for the job.”
