A funeral directors, which has been ‘privileged’ to serve the people of Alnwick and district for 90 years, has opened a new funeral home.
Alistair Turner Funeral Directors has now settled into its new premises in Greenwell Road in Alnwick. In 1922, David Cockburn, a joiner based in Denwick, started serving the needs of Alnwick bereaved as their local undertaker.
His nephew George Tears joined his uncle on leaving school and worked as Alnwick’s undertaker until his death in 1992, when his nephew, Alistair Turner, returned to the town to continue the service.
Responding to the needs of the area’s residents, in 1996 Alistair erected purpose-built new premises at Greensfield Park and the commitment to serving the local people continued.
These 90 years of service have now been further enhanced with the addition of a new office and chapel of rest in the town.
Within its ‘quiet, dignified’ surroundings, the old Garden Lodge, in Greenwell Road, has been transformed into a beautifully-appointed funeral home, close to the town centre and with adjacent parking.
The new premises, under the management of John Stoddart, assisted by Emily Young, David Gamlin and Shirley Young, is ‘very concrete evidence ‘ of the commitment of Alistair Turner Funeral Directors to providing the best possible service to the people of Alnwick and the surrounding areas in their times of need.
The office will be open daily from 10am to 3pm and the 24-hour contact telephone number remains the same – 01665 510669. For more information, visit the website at http://www.alistairturner.com
