The Glendale Agricultural Society (GAS) has announced that the Glendale Horticultural and Industrial Society is offering the GAS Horticulture and Industry Bursary for the second year running.

The bursary will be given to a selected candidate or candidates, to help with their educational development in either a horticultural or industrial trade.

As with the Glendale Show, the dedicated section of the society encompasses everything from flower arranging to vegetable growing, and cookery to needlework.

As long as the educational course the applicant is undertaking can be linked to one of the two sections and they live within the Glendale area, their application will be considered.

Last year, the bursary was awarded to Nicola Pringle and Duncan Young, both of Wooler. Both were delighted to receive the bursary, with Duncan putting the money he received toward a course to help him pursue his long-term career goal of becoming a gamekeeper.

Eric Moffat, who has been the horticultural and industry secretary for the GAS for the past 12 years, said: “As a society, the GAS has always been very keen on supporting the local area, and especially education, which is the main focus of the Children’s Countryside Day.

“We decided that, as a section of the society, we would also like to contribute to this legacy.

“What we hope is that this bursary would encourage new blood to join the Glendale Horticultural and Industrial Society. The person who is selected will be asked to help with the Glendale show on Monday, August 31.”

Anyone interested in applying should [email protected] for an application form.

The deadline for entries is Saturday, August 20.
