Earlier the same day he attempted to snatch a handbag from a 53-year-old woman in Commercial Road, in Blyth, when he was riding a bicycle. The victim managed to hang onto her bag and he left empty handed.

Pugh was jailed for 32 months for the burglary, five months for the attempted theft and eight months for breaching a suspended sentence.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Nick Smith said: “We’re pleased with the sentence handed down to Pugh and we hope it will make him stop and reflect on his actions when in prison.

“Tackling burglary and other thefts effectively remains a priority for us and we will not stop targeting those we believe to be responsible for such crimes which we know causes concern in our communities.

“We want to make sure offenders are caught and face the consequences of their actions.”
