A FORMER RAF serviceman has used the knowledge of Dragons’ Den star James Caan in his quest to equip people leaving the Armed Forces with the skills to fit back into Civvy Street – and to create work for themselves.
Bruce Durham, who runs Amble-based Premier Corporate Training (PCT), has put together a course offering both resettlement training and qualifications in health and safety, providing both the expertise and the paperwork to allow recruits to set up their own business as trainers.
After the course, there will be the opportunity to train as accredited tutors in subjects such as manual handling, fire training and office safety, which is becoming the main training course for all office-based staff.
Bruce, a former RAF loadmaster, set up Sunray Training – which is also based in Amble and is a training arm of award-winning PCT – with former Forces personnel and received mentoring from TV dragon Caan’s Entrepreneur Business Academy, which was set up to nurture and develop entrepreneurs and their ideas.
Bruce said: “Thousands of personnel are going to be leaving the Forces and going through resettlement training.
“All of our team are ex-Armed Forces – we’ve all come from the Forces and we know what it is like to come out of the Armed Forces family.
“A lot of people come out and buckle but we are there to offer support and teach skills at the same time – it’s a holistic thing.”
Bruce met Caan when he went to Dragons’ Den to pitch for investment before setting up PCT.
