Bronze wins league title with Manchester City

Alnwick's Lucy Bronze was part of a title-winning side for the third time yesterday as Manchester City were confirmed as Women's Super League champions.

The Blues’ 2-0 win over nearest rivals Chelsea means that they are 10 points clear at the top of the table and cannot be caught.

Bronze, a former Duchess’s Community High School pupil, won back-to-back titles with previous club Liverpool in 2013 and 2014 and has now helped City to its first championship in what has been an unbeaten season so far.

And in yesterday’s key match, full-back Bronze was fouled by Gilly Flaherty for a penalty which Toni Duggan converted for City’s second.

But there may be more silverware to come for the 24-year-old as City face Birmingham City in the Continental Cup final on Sunday.
