British record holder in powerlifting seeks sponsorship for international competition

A powerlifter from Blyth is looking for sponsorship to help him compete for GB in an international competition.

Daniel Sherman has been selected to represent Team GB in the International Powerlifting Competition (IPF) Junior/Sub World Championships.

The competition is being held in Szczyrk in the south of Poland, near the borders with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, from August 29 to September 3.

But to compete, Sherman has to fund the trip, so he is appealing to local businesses for potential sponsorship.

The Tyne Metropolitan College student, studying towards a diploma in fitness, coaching and leisure operations (Level 3), dedicates the majority of my spare time to powerlifting .

He is a member of the Parkhead and Wansbeck Power Sports Club and is coached by Fred McKenzie, a British coach with a vast range of experience and achievements.

McKenzie is a former powerlifter who achieved a number of records and is greatly respected within the GB Powerlifting Federation (GBPF) for his coaching, refereeing, competition holding and training.

Alongside the physical powerlifting training, Sherman also passionate about developing his knowledge to build a career, and he has recently started to participate in McKenzie’s training courses and has already achieved GBPF instructor level 1.

Sherman holds a number of British records and has won regional titles in a number of categories.
