British horse stars target top prize at Burgham Trials
With Burgham's July event now only a few days away, preparations are now in full swing for the North East's popular international horse trials.
Exceptional numbers of entries have been received for the highly praised event, which will see over 600 horses competing over the four days of competition at the end of July.
The confirmed entries include a host of international riders vying to claim the prestigious Owen Pugh CIC 3* Crown including regular British team members Oliver Townend and Nicola Wilson.
Exciting developments are now taking shape including the addition of some thrilling new cross country features including the newly constructed water jump – The Owen Pugh Quarry Pond sure to see some action over the busy weekend for riders and spectators alike!
A range of attractions will be on offer in addition to the equine offering, there will be a host of country stalls including a Food and Rural Crafts Tent, children’s activity area and fun packed family dog show, all aimed at providing an action packed family day out.
Top show jumpers will be battling it out over the weekend in the British Show Jumping classes at Burgham with over £7000 of prize money up for grabs.
In addition, the event horses of the future will be on show in the Burghley Young Event Horse Qualifier on the Friday. A full timetable is available on the event’s website.
Event director Martyn Johnson commented, ‘site preparation is now in full swing as we see the site transform from grass fields into an international event. We hope July will be our best event yet and look forward to welcoming both the public and competitors to the event to experience the huge efforts made by both our committee, hugely supportive landowners and dedicated volunteers without who none of this would be possible.
