Brian Burnie, founder of Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care, is taking on the hike to promote the concept of free transport for people undergoing cancer treatment.

Brian, 73, set up the charity after selling Doxford Hall.

The epic 7,000-mile walk will take him more than two years to complete and he will be walking around eight million steps in the first year alone.

Brian is being joined along the way by colleagues and they are sleeping on a converted double-decker bus for the duration of the challenge.

He started in Newcastle at the start of March and made his way up through Northumberland and then headed into Scotland. He recently reached Fraserburgh, north of Aberdeen.

Brian said: “It’s definitely a challenge, but the coastal path is beautiful and I’ve met such wonderful people.”
