Brian English, of Amble, wrote the song, called Newcastle, in 2008 and recorded it in 2009.

And at the end of last year, he filmed a video for the track in the city it celebrates.

The tune, about the sights and sounds Brian has seen on trips to Newcastle, was sent to regional television station Made in Tyne and Wear, and it has agreed to play the song and video as a filler between programmes.

Brian, 41, has been writing songs since he was 12, and he is hoping the coverage will boost his bid to carve out a career in the music industry.

“I’m absolutely over the moon that it is going to be on TV,” he said. “I’m really excited about it, and I am hoping it is going to be the start of something for me.”

The video was originally uploaded on social networking site Facebook and has had more than 3,500 hits so far.

It has also been uploaded to YouTube.

The four-minute video was recorded and produced by Ally Lee and filmed by Andrew Bryson.

Brian added: “I’d like to thank Ally Lee and Andrew Bryson for helping make the video.”
